|Description:||W.M. Keck Observatory seeks a Computer Systems Administrator at it's HQ in Kamuela, Hawaii to support Windows desktops and either or both of two areas; Windows server environments and/or Linux deployments.

The observatory operates two of the largest and most scientifically productive optical/infrared telescopes in the world. The twin 10-meter telescopes are located amidst several other world class observatories on the summit of Mauna Kea, at almost 14,000 feet above sea level on the Big Island of Hawaii, one of the premier sites for astronomy.

|Duties:||Dependent on whether major skills are with Linux or Windows, the general duties of the position may include:
Configuration, management and support of Microsoft Windows desktop operating systems.
Support Linux configuration, administration and deployments.
Perform design, configuration and management of Microsoft Windows servers operating systems.
Manage new Exchange Server and related products such as Xwall and ScanMail.
Manage and support AD, DNS, DMZ and various 3rd party applications.
Provide support for financial systems including Solomon, ReQlogic, Ceridian and MS SQL Server.
Plan, monitor and evaluate computer system performance.
Design, develop, and test solutions in support of recommended system improvements and upgrades.
Monitor network security products such as firewall software/hardware, virus scanners, malware and spyware tools.
|Qualifications:||A minimum of 3 years experience in the following:
Supporting end users with Windows desktops including both XP and 7.
Configuring and managing TCP/IP networks.
Using Visual Basic or other scripting languages.
Evaluating technologies and making recommendations.
Disaster recovery concepts.
Configuring, administering and supporting Linux deployments
OR Windows emphasis
Performing Windows server configuration and administration
Supporting Exchange 2010 and Outlook.
Understanding of SMTP protocol.
Installing, configuring and running SQL Server.
Active Directory, DNS, IIS and Domain Controller concepts and technologies.
